Now that we’ve been up and running for nearly two weeks, I thought I should let you know a little bit about myself. My name is Jen and I am an Associate Professor at Harold Washington College in Chicago. I have been a member of the City Colleges team for nearly 13 years. Before that I was the director of a small preschool and before that I was a kindergarten teacher.

I have two teenaged sons- both fabulous, both challenging. They are, at present, driving me crazy…sleeping all day, waking and eating, smelling up the house. My husband, Larry, is a landscaper. He puts up with a lot from all of us and we put up with a lot from him. Larry and I met while serving in the US Peace Corps. He was a forester and I was a teacher trainer (some things never change). We lived in Mali, West Africa. I love to talk about Africa and our experiences there so if you ever want to hear more about that, just ask.

We have two dogs (pugs) who are at the center of our home life. They are nicer to me than anyone else I live with.

I thought I would try this (I have never blogged before) as I am always looking for new opportunities to talk to people who work with young children. My goals for this blog are threefold:

1. to support practitioners in the field

2. to create a space where practitioners can learn about math and math-related education (although many of the topics will be broader and applicable to other areas of the child care world)

and

3. to create a dialogue amongst early childhood professionals

I am hopeful that this blog will meet these goals. I would love to hear from you about what you would like to see and hear, here at Math at Home.
